2500 x 500

The often dubious, politically incorrect and mainly humorous musings of Ms Jane Turley, (Ex) Housewife Extraordinaire.

#AtoZChallenge 2025

I’m at it again!

Yep, I’m in the one of those crazy “let’s fiddle about with my blog” phases. I just can’t help it, I get bored easily. I know what I want but I can’t find it on the net and the thought of having to read all that jargon in order to do it myself makes me feel like dusting the house is actually an easier option.

Anyway, I’ve temporarily put this piccy up. Who knows how long it will last!

A to Z: B is for Badass Brits.

Now, when I think of Badass Brits, I think of the likes of Jason Statham and Vinny Jones. Men with humble, working-class backgrounds who’ve made good and have a reputation as hard men in films. The kind of men who, 100 years ago, might have worked 12-hour shifts down the mines and still come home and dug the garden over.       Not like our present PM, Keir Starmer, who keeps trying to pass himself off as the son

A to Z: Age is for Ageism

So, I reckon we should start off the A to Z with a rant on ageism and generally being old (read f***** over for the less sensitive amongst you.)   I know it’s hard to believe, but I started writing this blog in 2007 when I was 42. This makes me a dinosaur amongst the blogging community (i.e., I’m verging on the extinct), and last month, I turned 60.   Now, I know the kinder amongst you will be saying, “How

New Website

After 18 years on another CMS, I have moved my blog to a more versatile platform. However, it will take some time while I perform some jiggery-pokery to get it exactly how I want it. So please bear with me as things fall off the page, are posted upside down and so on. It has also beome apparent that I will have to edit hundreds of posts as importing them has screwed up all the post layouts, especially paragraphs. This

A Chicken Nugget A Day Keeps Justice Away

I have been forced. Yes, forced to come out of blog hibernation to comment on the latest scandal to hit the UK. God knows I have been tempted multiple times in the last few years to comment on some of the insane things happening in the UK and in the world, but sadly, life has just thrown too many curve balls at me. But today, I can take no more – I cannot keep my mouth shut any longer over

My Nominees for the US and UK Elections and Other Waffle

It’s the early hours of the morning, and I have had a large gin… Late-night alcohol is always a good recipe for writing gibberish. And I have not written gibberish for a while on my blog as I have been busy writing gibberish for my MA in Comedy Writing. Which I recently passed with a distinction. Yay! Yes, it transpires that even academics can be fooled into thinking gibberish is genius. Excellent. So anyway, I have written two sitcoms, a

Less is More (well that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it)

I’ve been practising my haikus, which you may recall, I’m not particularly good at. However, I wanted to address the woke issue in a concise, meaningful way as it is such a serious matter for discussion and particularly relevant to me as a comic writer. Which, if you know me,  translates as: 1) I’m too lazy to write a long analytical post. And 2) I’d rather watch a movie and eat tortilla chips. However, I feel obliged to say my

  1. Flower power, eh? You hippy, you.

Yep, it's me – I'm back! – and catching up on what's been happening. So where's the holiday, Mrs T? Don't forget that invite to Oz.

  2. Ah hello PB, how lovely to hear you again! I just got your card (I think it was Thursday/Friday) from New York. It sounds like you had a great time; I look forward to reading some blogs about your many adventures. I wish we had taken a photo when you were here – but it slipped my mind – it would have been a nice little piccy for The View – I don't supppose there will be many occasions when there will be 3 of us in one room:)

I'm not really the flowery sort but I thought this was quite nice -not too sickly girlie:) The one that was more appropiate for my blog was a template not a background (big difference) and just required too much work – it's all those things I have in my side bar which would have to be copied and saved etc. Ugh. Not enough time for that!

Thanks for the invite to OZ – maybe sometime – at the moment only a 4.30hr flight to Cyprus has me thinking about purchasing straitjackets for the boys:)

  3. Looks quite good, Mrs T. these over here, and here, are butterflies, right? Or is that one a cartoon bunny? Mmmm, hard to make out. Nice all the same!

  4. Heather,

You are so right – especially with my hair which is as straight as a die and has a will of its own. I've only ever had 2 perms – the first one fell out after a week cos my hair is very thick and strong. On the second attempt the hairdresser left the stuff in too long and left me with an Afro! I went straight out the premises to the next hairdressers and had as much cut off as humanly possible and I still had curly hair. God it was awful! Unfortunately, Mr T captured it on camera – there's a picture of me standing next to Adolf Hitler in Madame Tussauds looking a complete wally. It's classic horror photograph – and one I shall never be putting on this blog:) I only wanted a little wave in my hair, instead I got about 6 months of looking like a bearded collie!

Anyway… yeah, I'm not good at surpressing the creative impulses. Which is why I spend a lot of time sculpting chocolate:) It's good for the mind!

I know you like to travel, I'll let you know how I get on! I'm trying to be dignified by not showing too much excitement but I think the sun specs, kaftan and water buoy I've been wearing for the last three weeks might have given it away:)))

  5. Gary,

Butterflies, bunnies?? Blimey, I thought my eyesight was going but you've obviously got cataracts!

…Although you don't seem to have much of a problem looking at those nice young ladies on your blog:))

  6. Now. This "green" colour you have going on. Is it envy of some kind? You mention that you are looking for something but cant find it online. Maybe Mr T has blocked your laptop from visiting "those" types of sites!

But I do hope you enjoy your fiddling…which isnt a double entendre at all…honest.

  7. Ah Good evening Sy! I assure you Mr T has very little power to prevent Mrs T from finding her own fun!!

(And that wasn't a double entrendre either!)

  8. Yep, a photo op would've been good. We brought our camera with us… but forgot to use it! Don't think I could even blame jet-lag at that point.

Cyprus sounds good: sunny, hot, infused with alcohol – not that there was an absence of any of these when we were in the UK. Do you have a quest while in Cyprus, akin to your search for the Blarney Stone last year? A decent bottle of Cyprus sherry, an available and young Greek god…?

  9. Hmm… now there's an idea PB. A Greek God? Maybe I'll take my binoculars with me – it could be more interesting on the beach than I thought!

I must read up on Greek history before I go. I'm a little rusty in that area – it was that preference for Tudor bottoms that did it!

  10. Thanks Sue – but I've changed it again! Yep, I do like some of the Cutest Blog backgrounds. I can't understand why there aren't more sites with only backgrounds rather than templates – which are much more tome consuming to load if you have a lot of widgets.Crazy.
